Curtain Fabric Calculator

Curtain yardage isn't the window width — it's the window width multiplied by a fullness ratio (how much the fabric gathers when hung), plus side hems, then divided into fabric-width panels that are each cut to the finished drop plus a header and a bottom hem. Skipping the fullness multiplier is the single most common reason people run short.

    Typical sizes

    A fullness ratio of 2–2.5× is standard for pinch-pleat and rod-pocket curtains (2× for a fuller-bodied fabric, 2.5× for lightweight sheers). Finished drop is commonly floor-length: measure from the rod to 1/2 in (1.3 cm) above the floor, or to the sill/apron for a shorter style.

    Where this goes wrong

    Every fabric width used has to be hemmed on both sides individually before the panel is assembled, and each one needs its own share of the bottom hem — the panel count from this calculator already accounts for that. If your fabric has a repeat, every one of those widths must start at the same point in the pattern, which is why repeat matching increases yardage per width, not just once overall.

    Seam allowance

    Header allowance and hem allowance are added per panel above and below the finished drop before repeat rounding.
